Salt Damage:

Salts used on roads and sidewalks can cause moderate to severe damage to the turf and near plants. Salt damages the plants by drawing away moisture from the root system. This shocks the plant and causes browning and can kill the plants.

To help your lawn recover, apply gypsum after the grass has dried out. Then give the area a thorough watering for at least 30 minutes. Gypsum can also be used to reduce damage from pet urine.
